Library or Owned?

Posted by: luvbooks7 on: September 21, 2009

Last night I was sorting through some books and wondering, am I the only person who owns many books, yet goes to the library and checks out books to read?

I look at it this way, I can’t possibly afford to buy, even used, every book that I want to read, so I borrow from the library. Books by  treasured authors usually are the ones that I purchase, preferably new, so they can hopefully continue writing more books to enjoy in the future.

I will buy older used books also, if my library doesn’t carry them, and I “must read” them.

Then I’m faced with which books to read next? The library books have a due date, so usually I go with that, first, and put off reading my owned books for……………….however long it takes me to read/return the library books. Usually I have several books waiting for me at the counter so I put off reading my own books.

One good thing about library books is that they don’t fight for shelf space, they stay in the box, get read and returned.

Never enough time to read books, no matter how they arrive in my hands………

Reading

Posted by: luvbooks7 on: August 31, 2009

Sorry I haven’t posted, my son has had the flu.

I switched my tbr around, and am really savoring The School of Essential Ingredients by Erica Bauermeister.

Surprisingly I’m enjoying L A Candy By Lauren Conrad, it’s light, fluffy, but interesting at the same time.

Since I enjoy reincarnation themes, I’m thoroughly enjoying Dreadful Sorry by Kathryn Reiss also.

With only three chapters remaining in The Time Capsule by Lurlene McDaniel, I have a feeling it will end sadly, but I’m going to keep reading it.

I’m going to give Five Fortunes another chance, the first few chapters didn’t grab me.

What is everyone reading or wanting to read?

Top of the Stack

Posted by: luvbooks7 on: August 26, 2009

I finished and enjoyed Twenty Wishes and Just Take My Heart.

With the hectic pace of the week, I moved some books around on the stack to read, Top of the stack is L A Candy by Lauren Conrad, it looks like a “fluffy beach type read”, perfect for winding down at night.

The Time Capsule by Lurlene McDaniel is next on the stack, I’m working my way through her books.

Countdown June is third, I’m working my way through this series as well.

Witch’s fire is next, then Five Fortunes, followed by The Girls Almanac and Haunted Sister.

Criss Cross is being read slowly, it’s good however I had to put it down to finish the other two books to return tomorrow to the library.

I wonder what everyone else is reading…………..

Can’t wait to read these

Posted by: luvbooks7 on: August 23, 2009

Yesterday the mail brought long-awaited books!

I recently discovered an older series (Nightmare Hall), and I ordered The Wish by Diane Hoh, it arrived yesterday along with another book, The Haunted Dollhouse (Twilight- not the current vampire series) by Susan Blake.

I am wanting to dive back into Twenty Wishes by Debbie Macomber (life is hectic lately).

Just take my heart by Mary Higgins Clark is also calling me to read it.

What can’t you wait to read??

Books in the mail

Posted by: luvbooks7 on: August 21, 2009

Today brought surprises in the form of books.

I got My Soul to Take by Rachel Vincent.

Fool For Love an anthology

And Silhouette Nocturne has a 4 book Time Travel Series, I broke down and ordered them and they came today:

The Slayer by Cindy Dees

The Seeker by Lindsay McKenna

The rest of the week looks like busy-ness will be in store, so I don’t know when I”ll be able to read them, however they look good.

Has anyone gotten any books in the mail and what’s in store for the weekend

Happy Reading

Summer’s Winding down….

Posted by: luvbooks7 on: August 17, 2009

Wow, where has the summer gone?

I’d anticipated long lazy afternoons spent reading with my children, savoring many books.

Life got in the way lol.

This past week was filled with preparation for school, sorting clothes, getting backpacks and writing lists of still-needed supplies.

Not much reading.

I looked at the list of books due in a few days back to the library, and If the Witness Lied, by Caroline B Cooney was among them.

I picked it up and the first chapter is great!

I did finally finish Tightrope by Deanie Francis Mills.

I’m still reading 20 Wishes by Debbie Macomber, I’m reallly enjoying it.

I don’t have 20 wishes that I know of, but it’s worth thinking about.

What are y’all reading?

What were your summer plans and did they happen?

What will fall bring?

I plan on progressing on some projects that I’ve been workig on over the summer, I”ll make progress with them.

I plan on reading some of the books that I’ve gotten in the mail, and the weekly library books that come visit my home.

I plan on reading more new to me authors that my kids are reading, or going to read, this year. I’ve enjoyed some good authors that I wasn’t aware of. Gordon Korman is one of them, his Kidnapped Series was great.

He has a few series out, my library is hit and miss with the books coming on request, but I will persist and eventually finish all of them.

I plan on gathering hurricaine supplies, just in case we have a bad year, nothing worse than no power, no water, and sticky heat, and rain……

I plan on enjoying the rest of the baseball season and the playoffs and world series.

I wonder if audio books are worth listening to? I’ve never tried them, does anyone listen to any?
I know my library carries a few, I might try them.

I’m looking forward to my children’s orientation this week, I enjoy meeting the teachers.

Is anyone reading anything wonderful?

I have the Butterfly Garden waiting to read when I finish 20 wishes.

Happy Reading!

Broken Hearts, Midnight Hours, Terminal Games and more

Posted by: luvbooks7 on: August 6, 2009

I have a guilty pleasure, I simply cannot pass up a book about a serial killer, those twisted psychopaths hold my attention with every page I turn and every book I read.

My current psycho read is The Broken Hearts Club by Ethan Black. The first book I’m reading from the library, there are about 7 others which I plan on reading shortly.

I don’t reread books often, simply because usually there isn’t time to read the new or new-to-me books that I want to, and revisit old friends in books that I read before. Of course I do make exceptions and reread books sometimes.  My current reread is The Midnight Club by Christopher Pike. This will be my 5th reread of this book. I think the past lives aspect of the book is what draws me back time and again.

Terminal Games by Cole Perriman is the third book I am about to start reading since it’s due next week. I’ve never read this book nor author before, what drew me to it is the caption below the title “A cyber thriller”.

What library or other books are you reading? Do you reread or is once enough for you?

Are there any books you can’t wait to purchase or read?

One book I can’t wait to read is Criss Cross, it’s about a missing locket, among other things.

Happy Reading!

Books, books, books!

Posted by: luvbooks7 on: August 5, 2009

The “book fairy”, also known as the mail carrier, visited me today and delivered Beach Trip by Cathy Holton, Life without Summer by Lynne Griffin, HOlly’s Inbox by Holly Denham, The Nightmare Room Dear Diary, I’m dead, by R L Stine, and When you Reach my by  Rebecca Stead. Also A portrait in time by Barbara Donley Bradley.

Since tomorrow is our weekly library visit, I am gathering up the books to return. I checked the hold list, and we have a dozen books coming home, along with whatever strikes my childrens’  fancy on the shelves.

I realize with the economy being what it is, more people use the library. I wonder if people are newly using it? Or saving money by going to the library and purchasing less books.

My library is pretty good, with an online cataglog, and we use it weekly, so my habits haven’t changed there. I have bought less new books, and instead get them online used.

Now it’s time to resume April since it’s due tomorrow, along with a plethora of other books.

Happy Reading!

Weekend Reading and stuff

Posted by: luvbooks7 on: August 2, 2009

I’m spending the weekend reading, library books, blogs, lists, etc.

I found this quote by Sara Reyes on FreshFiction dot com today  “. When I find a book I like or an author that intrigues me I want to know ALL about them: their other books, who they are, what they are writing. I want to get a sense of understanding”

I also want to know about the author, and her other writing, or his other writing, I want to delve into all of their works right now.

I’m slowly working my way though Time Windows by Kathryn Reiss ( my wonderful dentist reassured me that my chipped crown, only 2 months old, may be quickly repaired, not extracted, come Monday morning, we’ll see).  So I’m on a hunt about Kathryn Reiss now. My library has a few of her books.

I will begin reading “Who put the hair in my toothbrush” by Dan Gutman to my children tonight.

Will I contine with Breathless by Lurlene McDaniel, The broken hearts club by Ethan Black or something else?

I may play around with library thing and Goodreads.

Then there’s my own books, If you ever tell by Carlene Thompson has been calling me.

since a storm is coming, what a great time to curl up with a book and read, my kids are doing that now.

So much to read, more lists to update, and so little time.

Thank goodness for weekends.

What are y’all reading?

Happy weekend reading y’all!

Forgot to mention these books……

Posted by: luvbooks7 on: July 31, 2009

Time and again, I’ll post and later on I’ll realize I neglected to mention something.

As for series books, I loved and still love the Oz series, whether Baum wrote them or someone else.

And Harry Potter (yes I still haven’t read the final book, I don’t want to permanently say goodbye to them yet).

The first chapter of Time Windows by Kathryn Reiss is great! A family moves into an older home, a neglected and left behind dollhouse is in the attic, so far it sounds enchanting!

Happy Reading!
